Roots of Sphaeranthus indicus were extracted with ethanol. The antimicrobial activities of ethanolic extracts were evaluated by using in-vitro disc concentration of 20, 40 and 60 µg/ml. The minimum inhibitory concentration was calculated using broth tube dilution method. Significant antibacterial and antifungal action was observed in ethanolic extract of roots against E. coli, S. aureus, P. aurogenosa by Tetracycline was used as standard and C. albicans, A. niger by Fluconazole was used as standard respectively.
